05.04.09 – Hip Hop DJs at the Village Hall
April 7th, 2009Last sunday (April 5th) marked the occasion for all kinds of fun goings on in Southampton’s Hamptons bar (bit of a tongue twister). Read on for more info and some funny pictures.
First of all it was Hannah Thomas and the Village Hall Club hosting a jumble sale with various trinkets, music and clothing for sale, at ridiculously affordable prices. (I personally picked up a Dennis Wilson cd and a nice doomy compilation). Hannah had also baked some lovely cakes – the rocky road sold out fast and is likely to do the same next time, so don’t miss out! Last, but by no means least, Hamptons were serving up some fine cooked breakfasts for the measly price of £4.

Fast forward to the evening and the Sotones lot had taken over and were hosting musical entertainment from the likes of Hannah Shark and Plat du Jour. Headlining were Sotones big shots Dave Miatt (playing as Jackie Paper) and Lonely Joe Parker. Joe wasn’t all that lonely really, as Beaux Hardts drummer Dave Wade-Brown bashed the skins on a couple of songs, and the cycling troubadour was later joined by Dave Miatt and yours truly for a couple of covers and a singalong shanty-style number. Here’s me eating a giant blue candy bar while the other two perform a musical poetry reading.

After all that hearty sunday goodness, we finished the night in style, dancing like white folk to the hippest, hoppest two DJs in town (one of whom was our very own Johnny Toaster), dropping it like it was a bit warm.

(note the fact that Toaster’s reading the most gangster part of the paper)
Thanks to Megan Thomas for the photos!
Barny out.
